Tips for People Considering Papillon Dogs
Many of the smaller breeds require a lot of grooming, which not everyone would like to deal with. For those who want a more wash and wear dog, papillon dogs might be a good choice. These dogs have long silky hair that just needs to be combed and brushed regularly. They also need to have baths. However, there is no need to trim or clip their hair into fancy styles, this care can all be done by the owner at home rather than needing to go to a dog groomer, which can save you some time and expense. They also need their teeth cleaned and their nails trimmed in order to keep them healthy.
However, these dogs are not a good choice for people who don’t have a lot of time to spend with their dog. Papillon dogs require a lot of attention if they are to be kept happy. They need to have their daily walk and exercise, and although they are easy to train for the most part, they need to have consistent training. They are the kind of dog that gets unhappy if they are left alone for any length of time, and we all know that unhappy dogs tend to find ways to get into trouble, so we don’t want this to happen.
Papillon dogs are pretty flexible about where they can live, and don’t necessarily need to spend a lot of time outside or in a yard. However, they tend to bark at everything. This can make them good watchdogs, but it makes them dogs that tend to cause problems in apartment buildings since neighbors will not like all the barking.
Because these are small dogs with bones that can be easily broken if they are dropped or stepped on, it is best not to have papillon dogs in homes with small children since accidents do happen. They are usually only eight to ten pounds and eight to eleven inches tall. Also, as with any small dog, you want all the people who live in the home with the dog to be able to make it clear that they are in charge, and not the dog, which small children are just not able to do.
